St. Marks Shooting Match
September 27 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm
In earlier days, and on a more limited basis today, people hunted to acquire meat for their families. Many hunting seasons for game (squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc.) were during the fall and winter so that meat could be preserved for winter use. A local shooting match, often sponsored by a country church in the fall, allowed hunters to refresh their shooting skills while also enjoying a chance to win meat or cash prizes.
Today some of those traditional shooting matches survive, and you can view and/or participate in one (using your own shotgun) on Sunday, September 27th, from 10-5:00? at St. Mark Catholic Church, 5377 Acorn Road, Tell City. There will also be homemade chili (by the bowl or your gallon container) and pie, as well as other popular foods such as 1/4 lb. burgers; bingo (in an air-conditioned space); a cake raffle; a country store; games for adults and kids; and a raffle for cash and other prizes worth over $8500; as well as plenty of shaded seating.
